Op woensdag 9 september start het BUT Film Festival 2009, dat van 9 t/m 13 september plaatsvindt. Het heeft een zeer gevarieerd programma waarin de genres B-movie, Underground en Trash allemaal aanbod komen. Veel gloednieuwe films zoals de wereldpremière van de underground-horrorfilm 'The Tourist´, maar ook klassiekers zoals ‘Hairspray’ (1988) van John Waters (VS), hoofdgast op het festival dit jaar. This month's release is here - a new unit of To-Tanem Spearmen, in medium armor with shields! The To-Tanem are the stalwart and strong children of Ptah, the craftsman god. Unlike the other Children of the Gods, they are not born to mortal mothers, but are instead crafted by their parents' hands of clay and stone, with sparkling gemstones for eyes. They are renown as the finest weaponsmiths in all of Ægyptus. Their skill at the forge is only surpassed by their love of precious stones and metals - which they eat for sustenance! Reuzenrat in vulkaankrater ontdekt In de jungle van Papoea Nieuw-Guinea hebben wetenschappers een nieuwe soort van reuzenratten ontdekt, zo heeft de BBC gemeld, vaststellend dat het dier met een lengte van 82 cm zich bereidwillig liet filmen. De vorsers schatten dat het dier zowat 1,5 kilo weegt. Het is meteen een van de grootste ratten ter wereld, zei Kristofer Helgen van het Smithsonian Nationaal Museum voor Natuurkunde in Washington die de filmploeg van de BBC vergezelde. Het dier behoort waarschijnlijk tot de soort van de mallomy's (reuzenboomratten) en leeft vermoedelijk enkel in de krater van de uitgedoofde vulkaan Mount Bosavi. The pictures display Salome, the biblical princess who demanded the head of John the Baptist as a reward for dancing for King Herod.
