Nederlanders ontwikkelen "zombieburger"

Een groep Nederlandse wetenschappers werkt in laboratoria volop aan de ontwikkeling van een zogenaamde zombieburger. Dat is vlees dat volledig in een laboratorium "gekweekt" wordt. Het gaat dus om echt vlees, geen vervangproduct op basis van soja. Voor deze vorm van gedeeltelijke veeteelt, hebben de wetenschappers enkel wat stamcellen nodig van de dieren die ze later op hun bord willen. De universiteit van Maastricht maakt zich in het wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Scientific American sterk dat het binnen het jaar de eerste volledig synthetische biefstuk klaar kan hebben. Professor Mark post, die het project uitvoert, vreest echter dat hij niemand zal vinden die het eerste lapje vlees wil proeven.

The 1st female scifi writers: The Brontë Sisters

The Brontë Sisters' Lost Science Fiction Stories Involve Alternate Dimensions

Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, is long held to have been the first female science fiction writer, but Charlotte, Anne and Emily Brontë wrote about the imaginary kingdoms of Gondol and Angria when they were just kids, years earlier.
The British Library recently revealed rare and amazing hand-written transcripts from the authors that were created in their early years as children together which revealed an elaborate fantasy world called The Glass Town Federation. Branwell, their brother, and Charlotte were in charge of the imaginary kingdom of Angria, while Emily and Anne were the writers of the world of Gondal. They all were 'gods' of their kingdoms, and wrote obsessivley about them and created detailed maps. Because the worlds were set in (their) modern times and basically suggested an alternate dimension, scholars are considering the stories science fiction.

The E3 trailer for Dead Island is unleashed as Deep Silver confirms September release date
6th June, 2011 – Hampshire, UK/... Deep Silver today releases the E3 trailer, called "Part 2: Dead Island Begins", for the highly anticipated zombie game Dead Island™.

Leisure Suit Larry Leaves Lockup!

The original Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards is coming to a whole new generation of devices, thanks to creator Al Lowe and the Replay Games team.

Players (and “playas”) all over the world dropped to their knees today, surprisingly to pay homage to the master, the original top dog, the Casanova of computer games, Larry Laffer. Yes, the louche, lascivious, luckless but lovable star of Leisure Suit Larry is back — in his original incarnation.

Larry's original creator, Al Lowe, is working with the team from Replay Games to bring the original Leisure Suit Larry game to a whole new generation of netbooks, tablets and mobile devices — starting with Intel's Appup.com marketplace, where you'll find it this summer, on a device near you.

The new release is the 1991 remake of Larry's original scorching adventure Leisure Suit Larry In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards, which improved the game's original 16-color EGA graphics into achingly gorgeous 256-color VGA graphics, the 3D high-def of its day.
