First of all we only spent a few hours of Saturday afternoon on the fair. It's Maanrock and the combination of a crazy CFX-concert and the Versuz-stage on Friday made SaturDAY a bit shorter than expected. But this fair also coincided with the gigantic Gamescom & the always highly anticipated Viencon. Cosplayers had so much to chose from. Secondly I had said almost 10 years ago that I was tired of indoor anime mega-shopping-cons and had thus stopped visiting the likes of FACTS, MiA,.. until evil friends managed to convince me otherwise.  . Let's get the most important remark out of the way first: this was an extremely tiny event and probably not your cup of tea.  . But then again: you might be into LARP ( GN in French ) and into heroic fantasy, D&D, sword and sorcery, Medieval torture-machines, elves, leather armour, or ancient viking mythology,.. In that case you missed some fun. Personally I don't know if this event has a long history, I had never heard of it before. Yet its premise: " a LARP camp in the style of a Medieval settlement " seemed interesting enough to drive to the far & exotic Avelgem.  A huge free parking, plenty of toilets spread over the entire campsite, pancakes, mead and other booze for democratic prices ( 2€ for a softdrink, good cava and free tab water ), good weather, a very moody castle, archery, more mead, some artists & vendors for fantasy/LARP-items ( got myself a cool Cthulhu doorhanger from Haurora Lavendel ), a flea circus & games for the kids, LARP-bat

The renaissance fair Elftopia has a wonderful location in a castle park but for some reason the Comic Con Belgium-group who owns this fantasy fair seems to hold it back. Maybe letting a few corporate multinationals purchase & organize almost all major geek-events wasn't the best idea. Why complain?  Since we got early bird tickets for Saturday, the entrance price was still acceptable ( not like the crazy 30€ at the gate ) Since we got there ridiculously early, we got a spot on the parking ( and 8€ is an acceptable price to stand at 50m from the festival gate ) The weather was sunny & warm ( ok,

After a few cancelled editions the most festivalish of the Dutch fantasy fairs has finally returned and it was huge, super-dusty and big fun. . Probably the best day. The end . . Details? Everyone should fill in the positive & negative points of an event for themselves and not force their view upon others.
