Red Blok Party Crashers (AT-43)

The landing pod rattled and rumbled as it approached the surface of Damocles.
The blasts of the anti-aircraft guns constantly shook the cabin: Neither the Therians nor the U.N.A. seemed glad of the brave revolutionary landing…

Inside the pod, the soldiers seemed oblivious to the commotion on the outside. Their commander's words covered the racket:

You are all heralds of our ideals. Today you are taking the Revolution to enemy territory and you will demonstrate the unequalled power of the Red Blok…
Suddenly the speakers died: The pod had crash-landed on the factory world.

Clutching his Gauss rifle, Vassili jumped out of the wreck. Followed by his unit, he headed straight of the rally point.
Behind him, the smoking frame of the landing pod collapsed, finally giving in to the many impacts.

Event - Geek Village Summerfest & Elftopia (2025)

Starting a review with some words of praise seems right. Event - Romeinenfestival Tongeren (2025)

Precisely a decade ago, during a rainy weekend, there was a Viking market in Tongeren and I was exited for this initiative by the Gallo-Roman museum. Alas it took me 10 years and living in Tongeren for half a decade, to cover another such event by this museum.  Luckily the Roman festival ( Romeinenfestival ) was worth the wait. A Roman market with historical artisans, workshops, free museum entrance, food, 50 re-enactors, including legionairs from several legions, periods and provinces and the thing everybody remembers: gladiator fights in the streets.  And the weather was much better. Event - Manga & Cosplay festival 2022

Let's start with the links first and then some random thoughts? There will be several sample images added to this post as the processing advances. It was during a warm November month in the Osaka -region that I finally started appreciating Autumn and the warmth of it's colours .  This year the extreme drought is giving September the first hint of those same colours. A perfect opportunity to visit the famous Japanese garden of Hasselt and reminisce about those days in Nara with the deer strolling through the parks and streets.. except in Hasselt it weren't deer posing for the cameras but cosplayers.  Yes; this was my weekend number 5 in a row with a costume event. Event - Castlefest (2025)

There was an anomaly in the time-space continuum during Castlefest . We arrived -on Sunday- earlier than usual. Didn't do anything unusual. Only danced to the concert of SeeD. Drank less mead than normal. Yet still we did not manage to see the entire fair in a day. So the fabric of time must have torn or folded in some strange way, causing it to slip uncontrollably through our fingers. Even stranger: it only started raining at the moment we reached the car. That's simply uncanny!  What witchcraft have you used Castlefestians? Teach me ! My only witchcraft comes out of some soulsnatching boxes dangling by my sides.  And if you want to see the results you'll have to be patient. Richard Hatch komt naar Facts 2007

Ja, wij zijn zeer zeker fans van de originele scifi reeks Battlestar Galactica en ja, ook de nieuwe serie heeft ons hart gestolen. En slechts 1 acteur heeft in beide reeksen een belangrijke rol: Richard Hatch. In de originele reeks speelde hij de hoofdrol als kapitein Apollo. In de nieuwe reeks heeft hij een belangrijke bijrol als de politieke gevangene / vrijheidsstrijder / terrorist Tom Zarek... en mag hij zelfs met de nieuwe kapitein Apollo op de vuist gaan. En in oktober komt hij naar Gent... op de Facts-conventie .

Event - De Quaeye Werelt (2025)

1477 was een belangrijk jaar voor België en de Bourgondische Nederlanden. Na de dood van hertog Karel de Stoute, ook bekend als  Charles Le Téméraire,  in de slag bij Nancy, erfde zijn dochter Maria van Bourgondië het hertogdom. Dit leidde tot de Bourgondische Successieoorlog, een conflict tussen Frankrijk en het Huis Habsburg om de verdeling van de Bourgondische erflanden. En precies in deze context speelt zicht het grote kampement van de Quaeye Werelt af, inclusief een veldslag tussen de Bourgondische troepen en Antwerpse opstandelingen. Collab - Cosplay & LGBTQIA+ awareness video's in de Japanse Tuin

Waar de meesten enkele jaren geleden nog dachten dat de LGBTQIA+ gemeenschap eindelijk de rechten hadden gekregen waar alle mensen recht op hebben, Prides hun protest-aspect niet langer nodig zouden hebben en op termijn konden vervellen tot een feest waar straight en minder straight mekaar kunnen ontmoeten, is de situatie ondertussen erg veranderd. Dit weekend, op zaterdag 28 juni 2025, trokken bijna 200.000 LGBTQIA+-personen, hun Allies en iedereen die geeft om democratische burgerrechten door de straten van Boedapest ondanks een verbod van de hoogste politieke leider, ondanks de strenge straffen die hen te wachten stonden. Overal ter wereld draaien autocratische leiders de rechten van hun burgers terug en de LGBTQIA+-groep lijdt hier enorm onder. In plaats van er enkel verdrietig om te zijn en zich erbij neer te leggen, is de gemeenschap strijdvaardig om niet enkel haar rechten, maar de rechten van alle burgers te verdedigen. Event - Internationale carnavalsstoet Hasselt

Yes, I know: I had promised to cover only one carnaval's parade per year. But I have a great excuse: a brandnew camera fell into my lap to experiment with and I needed an event for testing. So no, it was neither the free booze, nor the happy people, nor the smoutebollen that lured me to Hasselt.. those are simply perks of working . Just to be clear: that Sony A9III is a magnificent camera with crazy specs. I will probably consider buying the 2nd or 3rd generation of its Global Shutter sensor technology, but for now it's great but not needed for what I shoot. Sports and wildlife shooters are the intended targets and they'll enjoy it greatly.  Hasselt carnaval has a very enjoyable parade wth several international participants & loads of confetti. The 2024 parcours had some very long, straight streets.. perfect to test a huge 300mm f2.8-lens. Event - Trolls et Légendes (2025)

This is a placeholder for some thoughts about Trolls et Légendes once I'm less tired, but in short: there was fine whisky, good music, hydromiel, delicious costumes, good laughs and nice people. Yes it is funny & heartwarming how many visitors from other events like Uchronicité , or the masked ball in Alden Biesen say hello during Trolls et Légendes. When you see many cosplayers not face the camera in my stills, it might be hard - for some - to believe that all of those shots were posed. I always try to have some sort of contact with the cosplayer before taking the shot ( except for example the still named " The initiation ", because they were doing their act for the crowd .)
