Event - Carnevale di Venezia in Bruges

Every February Bruges may officially name itself The Venice of the North for another reason than the Reien (= city canals) & the bowbridges who vaguely resemble the sinking Italian city-state. For one day the masked elegance of the carnaval parade takes over the streets. Not a carnaval like it is usually celebrated in the Lowlands, but a Venetian style citywalk.

Is it pretty to behold? Absolutely. On top of that, this year the weather changed into a bright sunny weekend after 14 months of gloom & rain. Even better!

Still this might have been my last visit to the event because it has become simply too crowded with dozens of photographers, entire photoclubs & a tenfold thereof in pushy cellphonographers.
So I shot only a few stills, am -as usual- only satisfied by a handful -but that's typically me- and had that crazy Geert not stopped me, I would have walked away after only 1/3rd of those shots. So yes, the introvert part of my abivert personality is getting stronger.

Admitedly I had accepted to go due to the weatherforcast and the need to test some new camera/lens combos before events like Casanova Danst and Geeks & Freaks where I'll be working and before asking some cosplayers to help with some videoclips.

It has been a while, yet I have not been missed. Nowadays I need a few days of solitary hiking & being alone with the animals, trees, mountains, meadows,.. after any gathering of humans. I sure hope this balance will change again as it has  done so often. But for now it is the way it is.. and my creativity is flowing so fast that I sometimes feel I'm running after my own ideas.

Event Report Probleem

Bericht aan iedereen & vooral aan de organisatoren met wie was afgesproken dat er een fotoreportage op hun evenement zou worden gemaakt. De volgende 6 weken zullen er beduidend minder reportages gemaakt kunnen worden omdat onze fotograaf van de tenen tot aan de knie met zijn rechterbeen in het gips zit. Do you have 5€ left in your pocket? That's enough to pay the entry fee for this annual gathering of Belgian steampunks. Or is it steampunkers? Or vaporistes? Meh.. Choose whatever you fancy. There are two kind of genre events in the Benelux: The big ones. Nearly all of them are owned by large corporations ( multinationals even ), held in big venues and these have become éxtremely expensive for both visitors and vendors. For the current entry prices you expect to be WOW-ed and entertained at a high level. High expectations are always difficult to meet. And there are a few tiny events trying to stay afloat. Just like for the big events the prices to get something organised have gone through the roof. But they mostly work with volonteers instead of a corporate overhead workforce consisting of more high payed managers than workers and they don't need to bring home truckloads of cash to please the shareholders & investors. Event - Geek Village Genk (2024)

A heads-up: on November 17th 2024 we'll be hosting a videobooth on Geek Village ( Thor Central, Genk ) in room 12 ( named Trovao ). It will be the 1st time we put the 360° videobooth on a fair.. so it's somewhere between in between scary & exciting. Event - Comic Con Antwerp 2022

First of all we only spent a few hours of Saturday afternoon on the fair. It's Maanrock and the combination of a crazy CFX-concert and the Versuz-stage on Friday made SaturDAY a bit shorter than expected. But this fair also coincided with the gigantic Gamescom & the always highly anticipated Viencon. Cosplayers had so much to chose from. Secondly I had said almost 10 years ago that I was tired of indoor anime mega-shopping-cons and had thus stopped visiting the likes of FACTS, MiA,.. until evil friends managed to convince me otherwise.  . Resultaten Aztek-TV tekenwedstrijd

Jullie stemmen zijn geteld. Waar de plaatsen 1 en 2 snel duidelijk waren, bezorgde de 3e plaats ons heel veel hoofdpijn. Maar liefst 4 tekeningen kregen precies evenveel punten. De redactie besloot om na te kijken hoeveel personen een stem hadden uitgebracht voor elke tekening. De uiteindelijke laureaat kreeg 166 voorkeurstemmen achter zijn naam, net iets meer dan de anderen. Miss Aztek-TV 2007 is geworden: nr. 13 Battle Rituals door Lacus De eredames zijn geworden: nr. 20 Azteekse krijgster door Syllie nr. 22 Jaguar warrior door Kocas Proficiat! Zij krijgen hun geschenkpakketten van Siemens Mobile en Dutch Filmworks spoedig thuisgestuurd. Gelukkig zijn er enkel winnaars bij Aztek-TV ! Alle andere kunstenaars worden voor hun prachtige werken beloond met ofwel een DVD van Dutch Filmworks , of een jaarabonnement op Aniway -magazine. Collab - Steampunk explorers of the Unknown

During the shooting day at the Verbeke Foundation last month I got a quick glimpse of this soon-to-be-married steampunk couple. And BAM here they are again! I blame it on Geert who keeps on bringing cosplayers & photographers together. I still had an idea to shoot with them from last time at this location.
