Jiro Taniguchi, tekenaar en scenarist, is in 1947 geboren in de Japanse provincie Tottori. Hij is al vroeg dol op lezen en tekenen, maar pas op z'n 19de jaar tekent hij Samoerai , zijn eerste verhaal. Daarna wordt hij assistent in de studio van Kyuta Ishikawa. Niet veel later maakt hij zijn echte debuut als tekenaar in het tijdschrift Young Comic van uitgeverij Shôgakukan. Dan gaat zijn carrière pas goed van start. In 1997 wordt een droom werkelijkheid: hij tekent een manga, getiteld Icarus , op een scenario van Moebius. Jiro Taniguchi is onbetwist de bekendste manga-auteur in Frankrijk en België. RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - The skeleton of what is believed to be a new dinosaur species — a 105-foot plant-eater that is among the largest dinosaurs ever found — has been uncovered in Argentina, scientists said Monday. Scientists from Argentina and Brazil said the Patagonian dinosaur appears to represent a previously unknown species of Titanosaur because of the unique structure of its neck. They named it Futalognkosaurus dukei after the Mapuche Indian words for "giant" and "chief," and for Duke Energy Argentina, which helped fund the skeleton's excavation. "This is one of the biggest in the world and one of the most complete of these giants that exist," said Jorge Calvo, director of the paleontology center at the National University of Comahue, Argentina. He was lead author of a study on the dinosaur published in the peer-reviewed Annals of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. Scientists said the giant herbivore walked the Earth some 88 million years ago...

Vreemde boodschappen bij lichaamsresten in Vorst Speurders hebben twee vreemde boodschappen ontdekt in de buurt van de lichaamsdelen die dit weekend zijn ontdekt in het Dudenpark in Vorst.In het park werden twee dijbenen en een deel van een romp gevonden. Die werden volgens de politie maximum zes uren voor ze werden ontdekt in het park neergelegd. De speurders vonden ook twee vellen papier. Daarop stond geschreven 'Watashi wa Kira dess' of Japans voor 'Ik ben de moordenaar'. Het gaat om een beroemde zin uit een Japanse stripverhaal of manga van Takeshi Obata en Tsugumi Oba uit 2004.
