Elfia 2023 : rain. Fotofair 2023 : heatwave. El Mundo Fantasia 2023 : heatwave. Castlefest 2023 : rain. Seeing a pattern? In recent visits to the Netherlands the weather has been rather unwelcoming.. Luckily the volunteers, the visitors, the creatures & the inhabitants of Castlefest are a véry welcoming crowd of wandering ( may I say: festive ) souls. There needs to be some balance, right? . Admittedly, on Sunday there was less rain, less super-hard rainshowers and less stormwind than previously announced and as in other parts of this region of Europe ( as I noticed when retuning to Belgium ). And a few times the sun even peeked out of the clouds for a moment. Still; it had been raining for weeks without end so there was only so much much the organisation could do in lands which are 5m below the sea surface.  . Mondo Verde, the resort where El Mundo Fantasia takes place, has some of the prettiest locations to make images of the renaissance fairs in the Lowlands. I'm not going to repeat the complete overview of sights I listed in this article last year. You can either read it there or discover it yourself on another edition. Instead let us focus on what happened. Wow, that was an intense & dramatic sounding phrase. Don't be scared. What actually happened was that people saved my day. I know, coming from an asocial ambivert, that's a bold & weird statement. . It was just one of those days. It was too hot (31°C). The 1st 90minutes inside were too crowded. I was feeling too tired & was completly exhaused from long, hard weeks of nearly 24/7-work. I was more focussed on pushing a wheelchair uphill than on photos. BOEM ! That's the sound of Medieval cannons after almost 3hrs of sleep the night before and still I'm glad I went to see the great battle of the Quaeye Werelt reenactment.  Here's a short video on Clapper: Cannons & a bard (Put the sound on) Except some flashes of the battle, some honeywine & icecream with great people and a good hearthy meal with friends afterwards.. the day is a blur. I know it was hot. I know icecream fell on my toes, Alex played the lute for me.. I have probably stepped on peoples feet or hit them with the 200-600mm telelens.. or both. Luckily my cameras registered all that my mind has forgotten. .  Let us hope this time we don't have to wait 3 years till the next edition. . I haven't finished all stills..  not yet.
