Twlight 4 op nummer 1 in Belgische box office

Met 275.518 bezoekers in het eerste weekend breekt The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – part 1 alle records van de vorige delen in de Twilight Saga. Met deze cijfers scoort Breaking Dawn – part 1 bovendien het tweede hoogste aantal bezoekers ooit tijdens een openingsweekend.

HET VIERDE HOOFDSTUK VAN DE TWILIGHT SAGA OP NUMMER 1 IN DE BELGISCHE BOX OFFICE.

Dit cijfer betekent een gemiddelde van meer dan 3.700 bezoekers per zaal op vijf dagen tijd in België en Luxemburg.

Het vierde hoofdstuk in de Twilight Saga zet hiermee een nog sterker openingsweekend neer dan de drie vorige films in de serie. Twilight lokte 48.279 bezoekers naar de bioscoop, New Moon 250.174 en Eclipse 222.021.

Unveiled to a sold-out crowd at the company’s BlizzCon^® gaming festival, World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria^™ lifts the fog of mystery surrounding a long-lost continent that has been newly rediscovered following the events of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm™. The new expansion reintroduces the elusive pandaren, originally seen in Blizzard’s real-time strategy game Warcraft^® III, as a playable race and adds a brand-new player class: the martial-arts-focused Monk. Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines! Op 22 oktober zal shoppingcenter K in Kortrijk de hele dag in het teken van racen staan: het shoppingcenter zal die dag speciaal voor de release van Forza Motorpsort 4 omgebouwd worden tot een volwaardige pits, compleet met raceseats en de aanwezigheid van professioneel piloot Frédéric Vervisch.

Cuban film ‘Ferozz Wild Riding Hood’ has proven too shocking for the Raindance Film Festival screening tonight at the Apollo Cinema, in Piccadilly.due to screen at 21.00 as UK Premiere and part of the Raindance Official Selection.

‘Ferozz Riding Hood’ a twisted re telling of the Little Red Riding Hood Classic folk tale set in rural Cuba focuses on a dysfunctional family lead by cruel and perverted grandmother and the sexual awakenings of a young adolescent.

Playing out as an excessive grotesque pantomime where sexual perversion is stylized, and black magic and gruesome violence are set off against notions of sin and chastity, ‘Ferozz Riding Hood’ is also and set off by lush photography of the Cuban forests.

Director Jorge Molina has gained cult status in his native Cuba due to an extensive body of work, regularly appraised by the critic for his unique cinematic vision driven by a resolute uncompromising talent. Jorge Molina is a professor at the acclaimed International Cinema School in Cuba.

According to Elliot Grove, Founder of Raindance Film Festival and the British Independent Film Awards, the Council’s decision is ‘’regrettable, but that we have been forced to accept this censorship, ‘Ferozz Wild Riding Hood’ is a powerful film which the Festival feels, deserves to be seen by adults living in the Uk.”

To One Eyed Films the sales representative of the film, the censorship decision seem “ as despotic and as ‘nanny state as the cruel grandmother in the film, after all the film has been shown to European audiences at different festivals around the film, and it seems far too puritanical to ban the screening”.

Asked whether he would edit out a particular scene, to avoid the withdrawal of the film from the Festival, and which was of particular objection of the Council, a scene where Miranda, the ‘’little Red Riding’ is seen playfully masturbating with a puppy, the Director blankly refused ‘’on the grounds that the scene portrays a sexual innocence which is a universal experience’’

Sint-Gillis op 31 oktober... Het is net 17u. Een gekke heks duwt tegen het eiken hek, dat traag knerpend opengaat, in het Kasteel Pelgrims. Binnen, in een somber, bloedrood licht, maken monsterachtige spinnen hun nesten in de sierlijke kroonlusters van het kasteel.

Heksenbezems hier en daar, vreemde geluiden, een ketel met pompoensoep: neen, je droomt niet, je bent wel degelijk in het Kasteel van de heks Pelgrimus die Halloween viert ! Voor deze gelegenheid, nodigt ze alle monsterlijke creaturen uit om een nogal ongebruikelijke wandeling te maken in het Pierre Pauluspark.

In het kader van het Halloween Festival dat het Museum voor Fantastische Kunst tijdens de hele herfstvakantieweek organiseert, word je uitgenodigd om je naar daar te begeven op het einde van de heksenwandeling op 31 oktober.

OM 17H: onthaal in Parmastraat 69 met vernissage, degustatie van de verschrikkelijke pompoensoep en een paar rotte fruitsappen die de heks ineengeflanst heeft.

OM 18H30: vertrek van de stoet ! Alleen de monsters, heksen, verminkten, zombies en buitenaardse wezens worden tot het park toegelaten. Daar zullen jullie een gratis bezem krijgen om gemakkelijker naar de andere plekken van het programma te kunnen vliegen. En, tijdens de wandeling, zal je heksen kunnen bewonderen die in elkaar gestoken zijn door scholen en kunstenaars van Sint-Gillis.

OM 19H : voor het Museum voor Fantastische Kunst in de Amerikaanse Straat 7, komt de verschrikkelijke Halloween Man aan, die hoog vanop zijn balkon toverdrankjes en vervallen snoepjes zal gooien. In een gulle bui zal hij ook 7 bebladerde bollen gooien, waarvan er één een zilveren vinger bevat. Degene die op die vinger zal uitkomen, zal de geprivilegieerde gast van de avond zijn en kan ze zeker van zijn dat hij een heel gunstig jaar tegemoet gaat.

OM 19H30 : mogelijkheid om het museum te bezoeken en om het ‘raadsel van de verloren schedels’ op te lossen om de prijs te kunnen bekomen van het fabuleuze Heksendiploma (6 euro per deelnemer)

On the first of the month we release our All Purpose Miniature Rules - a great universal system for playing any sort of tabletop game. The first installment will cover the basic system and skirmish games, with later expansions looking at large scale combat, and other gaming genres and toys.

From there we move to the long-awaited release of Quad. A simple, generic system for RPG games on the fly, we have been prepping this wonder for a while, and now it's here. Considered one of the best little RPG systems out there, it had an enthusiastic following at Gen Con. Now you can be one of the first to get the new edition.

SCI-FI-LONDON’s Oktoberfest

SCI-FI-LONDON’s notorious Animé Allnight screening has a fantastic line-up with the best Japanese animation, as you’d expect!

The screening is part of SCI-FI-LONDON’s Oktoberfest celebration in Camden Town and takes place Sat 8 Oct, 11.30pm until 08.00am Sun 9, at the Odeon Camden.

First off we screen the classic JIN ROH: The Wolf Brigade, acclaimed and multi-award winning classic, this was the last fully hand-drawn animated feature. This amazing film is the work of Mamoru Oshii and Hiroyuki Okikura, who are responsible for other massive anime titles like AKIRA and GHOST IN THE SHELL.

As well as this classic we are delighted to show the latest in super real 3D CGI with the London premiere of TEKKEN BLOOD VENGENCE – This is a 90 minute visual thunderstorm of one of the world’s favourite videogames. Beautifully created and thrilling, this will appeal to your inner child like no other film on the big screen!

Next up, we have TRIGUN BADLANDS RUMBLE the first Trigun movie for over 10 years! The movie has all the elements found in the original television series —comedy, suspense, action, and drama — it’s all there. This is an excellent return to the Trigun universe so many people love.

We also screen EDEN OF THE EAST, PARADISE LOST, the second movie from the popular TV series. This one wraps up many of the storylines and looks just as amazing as the previous incarnations – not to be missed!

Finally, we round the night off with WELCOME TO THE SPACESHOW. Five kids come together to spend their summer holidays at a camp. But their life changes dramatically when they come across what they believe to be a small dog, badly in need of help. The creature – known as Pochi – turns out not to be a dog at all but an alien on an important mission. It’s cute, funny, brilliant!

Everyone attending the allnighter will receive a bag of goodies and some freebie treats throughout the night – so booking early is advised.

The Struggle for Cantha Continues in Winds of Change Part 2!

Guild Wars Beyond continues with the second chapter of Winds of Change, the largest free content expansion in Guild Wars to date. This release sees the addition of 11 more quests, 5 respawned zones, and numerous hidden scenes for players looking to experience the story to the fullest.

In the previous instalment, players were introduced to the Ministry of Purity, an organisation that sought to bring peace and order back to an embattled Cantha. The Ministry began their righteous crusade by seeking to purge the land of the Afflicted – horrors unleashed during the events of Guild Wars Factions. The Ministry rallied the people to its cause under the belief that Cantha was a land that did not need heroes; only people with the strength and the will to stand up for themselves. From these simple beginnings, the Ministry grew in size and gained influence as the Afflicted were purged from the lands. People disillusioned with Cantha’s emperor for his inability to protect them looked to the Ministry as a source of hope.

As the players vanquished the last of the Afflicted, the Ministry of Purity soon set their sights on their next target: the gangs of Kaineng; the Jade Brotherhood and the Am Fah. The gangs have long been a threat that has existed within Canthan life – the empire is not strong enough to stop them. The Am Fah and Jade Brotherhood have continuously been at war with each other, and their struggle keeps them from being enough to threaten the empire directly. The three have existed as a system of checks and balances against each other – an uneasy balance of power that threatens to boil over into violence at any given moment. Under the leadership of Minister Reiko, the Ministry of Purity has declared that the gangs’ reign of fear must come to an end, by any means necessary.

In this second instalment of the three-part Winds of Change the conflict between the Ministry of Purity and the gangs escalates. The Jade Brotherhood and the Am Fah find themselves pushed back and resorting to desperate, destructive measures to retaliate. Some people begin to wonder – is the price being paid for security worth it? Where will the line be drawn for what is considered a threat? The motives of the Ministry of Purity become suspect with the arrival of an Assassin that has historical ties to the Ministry’s leadership.

The players find themselves caught in the middle of this struggle as loyalties shift and tensions boil over. Change has come to Cantha – but will the land be able to survive it?

NEW STORY DETAILS AND CHARACTERS REVEALED FOR THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: SKYWARD SWORD FOR WII

Nintendo has revealed new details about the introductory storyline and game play in The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword, which will launch exclusively for the Wii™ system on Nov. 20. The enhanced motion controls of the Wii Remote™ Plus (or Wii Remote controller with a Wii MotionPlus™ accessory) and Nunchuk™ controller allow for deeply immersive puzzle-solving challenges in this latest addition to the iconic Zelda franchise. This new game – one of the biggest in the history of Nintendo software development – will also feature new story elements that lay the foundation for the events that occur in the rest of the series. This includes the creation of the Master Sword, an ancient and powerful weapon that has been a constant in the 25-year history of the Zelda series. The introductory storyline includes the following:

• Introduction: The new game's storyline begins in Skyloft, an island town suspended high in the sky, on the day before young Link™ is to compete in a major bird-flying competition. The winner of the contest will earn the honor of taking part in a special ceremony with Zelda™.

• Link and Zelda: Friends since childhood, Link and Zelda have always shared a special bond. Events in the new game will add even more depth to their relationship.

• Groose: Link's nemesis at school, Groose, plays a significant role in the early moments of the new game. This bully of a character not only threatens Link's chances to win the bird-flying competition, but he also reveals a jealous streak toward Link and Zelda's special bond.

• Fi: Early on in Link's new adventure, he encounters Fi, the spirit of the powerful Goddess Sword. Fi's guidance proves to be crucial as Link goes forth on a challenging quest that will ultimately result in the creation of the Master Sword.

• Zelda's father: Gaepora, Zelda's father, is the headmaster of Link's school. As such, he has knowledge of the history and legends of Skyloft.

More details about the game's storyline and features will be revealed prior to its Nov. 20 launch.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword will be available as a standalone game or as part of a limited-edition bundle that also includes a gold-colored Wii Remote Plus controller. Additionally, every copy in the early production runs of the game will come packaged with a special music CD containing orchestral arrangements of select songs that will be performed at the upcoming The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert.

The Darkness II

2K Games announced that The Darkness™ II, for all previously announced video game consoles and PC, is now planned for release on February 7, 2012 in North America and February 10, 2012 internationally. Currently in development with Digital Extremes and based on the supernatural horror comic book series created by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II delivers a brutal and personal narrative as gamers take control of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as the Darkness.

Independent Finnish developer Housemarque, the critically acclaimed studio behind Super Stardust HD, Outland, Dead Nation and the upcoming Furmins, have today released the first DLC for 'PlayStation^® Network exclusive smash hit Dead Nation in North America. The “Road of Devastation” DLC offers gamers new gameplay content and challenges both in single player and co-op modes. The DLC will be released on September 28^th in Europe and other available regions.

CD Projekt RED just revealed the full list of changes coming to The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in the release of the new and improved version 2.0. Keeping its promise to deliver new content to fans and players with ease, comfort and no strings attached, 2.0 adds major improvements to the game free for all new and existing users! It will become available on 29.09.2011 via automatic update for everyone. Version 2.0 introduces the usual plethora of technical fixes and enhancements you've come to expect from a Witcher 2 update, but, it also offers three totally new game modes to increase ease of play, replayability and extra challenge.

Arena - a new gameplay mode that is separate from the main adventure and narrative of The Witcher 2. In this mode, Geralt of Rivia duels a variety of foes to the death in a gladiatorial arena located in an unnamed town somewhere in the Northern Kingdoms. In addition to winning gold and valuable items, players also receive points for their wins. They can then post their point totals on-line to compare their achievements against those of other blood sport enthusiasts around the world. Geralt can encounter both foes and allies in the arena. He can recruit the latter for a fee to assist him during his most challenging clashes.

Tutorial - the game tutorial takes the form of a brief adventure during which players learn how to use a range of game mechanics and functionalities. Assuming the role of game protagonist Geralt of Rivia, players save a wounded knight named Bolton of Ironford while learning game controls as well as the basics of combat and alchemy. This transpires step by step as the tutorial guides players through a series of minor missions. Upon completion, based on demonstrated abilities, the tutorial recommends the difficulty level which the player should choose in embarking on the main adventure of The Witcher.

Dark Mode - The ‘Dark’ difficulty setting is the most demanding difficulty level in gameplay terms. Under this setting, each and every foe represents a significant challenge. In addition to raising the difficulty bar, the module includes several new sets of equipment/items that are linked through a dark legend detailed in the Journal. Once all their components have been collected and donned, the Blasphemer’s, Oathbreaker’s and Kinslayer’s outfits provide great advantages in combat. The swords included in the outfits strip opponents of Vitality while supplementing the witcher’s. However, given that they are cursed, the swords provide no benefit and harm Geralt by sapping him of Vitality as long as the outfits to which they belong remain incomplete.

Corrections and improvements to combat:

• Numerous improvements have been made in the targeting system.
• Parrying is now unlimited (even when Vigor is completely depleted), though parries no longer cancel all damage (maximum 50% reduction once the relevant ability has been acquired).
• Responsiveness of game controls has been improved. This includes but is not limited to casting Signs, parrying, and attacking immediately after evading an opponent’s assault.
• Geralt’s attacks are no longer interrupted by attacking opponents. Attacks are now contiguous and foes cannot interrupt Geralt’s attacks by landing a blow.
• Assorted fixes now prevent opponents from incessantly attacking Geralt after he has been knocked down. Geralt can no longer be knocked down repeatedly in quick succession. Also, he rises quickly while evading subsequent attacks.
• Geralt no longer attacks opponents located behind other opponents positioned nearer to him.
• The target locking system has been improved. Preference is now given to previously highlighted targets.
• Target selection has been improved. Priority is now given to foes affected by a critical effect facilitating the completion of a finishing move.
• The additional two steps Geralt took after mounting an attack with the W, S, A or D key depressed have been eliminated.
• Attacks can now be continued even when a key controlling Geralt’s movement (e.g. W, S, A, D) is depressed.
• Attacks can now be continued if the attack key is depressed immediately after the final strike of an attack animation sequence.
• Geralt can now pivot 180 degrees immediately after completing an attack.
• Assorted problems with key responsiveness have been resolved. Keys no longer need to be depressed twice or more to trigger a given action.
• A distance attack problem has been resolved. Geralt now mounts distance attacks (lunge with sword in hand in the Fast style) when opponents were located at a suitable distance from him.

Other corrections and amendments:

• Casting several bombs no longer blocks further inputs.
• An option has been added to the configuration tool enabling aspect ratio to be set independently of resolution.
• The amount of disk space required for game patching has been reduced.
• The loading of selected Witcher 1 game saves no longer causes the game to crash.
• A greater number of monsters now appear in the cave leading to Loc Muinne.
• Improvements have been made in the manner in which monsters are spawned in the mist in Chapter 2.
• The visual effect accompanying Adrenaline use no longer disappears prematurely.
• Archers now draw their swords more quickly when Geralt approaches.
• Mages no longer automatically cast shield spells when Geralt casts daggers at them.
• The game is now paused when Geralt executes a finishing move in combat.
• The troll in Chapter 2 has been corrected. Previously, in some circumstances he could not be attacked.
• Physics on cast daggers have been improved.
• The site for aiming daggers is now more visible.
• Geralt’s animation when he dies while casting the Axii Sign has been corrected.
• An exploit in the fight against Letho has been eliminated. Previously, this foe could be killed by casting bombs in quick succession.
• An exploit related to the ‘Insane’ difficulty setting has been eliminated. Previously, game saves could be loaded with difficulty set to this level, which was contrary to design intentions.
• Camera positioning/operation has been corrected during the boss fight against the kayran.
• Camera control via gamepads has been improved.
• Assorted adjustments have been made in mutagen statistics.
• The ‘Junk’ filter in the Inventory has been adjusted to provide for correct item filtering.
• In the Inventory, the dialogue window warning of prohibited actions has been corrected.
• Assorted corrections have been introduced to the mini-map in Chapter 1.
• Audio balance throughout the game has been adjusted.
• Erratic character teleportation in mini–games has been eliminated.
• Assorted adjustments have been made in animations applying to nekkers.
• A minor bug in the “Scent of Incense” quest has been resolved.
• Numerous minor fixes have been introduced in character lip-sync throughout the game.

All of the fixes from previous patches are included in the version 2.0, along with all the DLCs released before.

Competitors battled through the qualifying rounds on a packed Samsung stand at Eurogamer Expo. In the PC final of FIFA 11, played on the Samsung TA950 computer monitor, Adam Winster from Preston was victorious in the final playing as Inter. Cristina Wong took the Tekken 6 console tournament title in true girl power style using character, Julia Chang’s, Kung-Fu moves to full effect. Both scooped a Galaxy S II and will be heading to the European event held in Warsaw, Poland from 6th–9th October. Team UK will then go on to the World Finals held in Korea in December to battle it out for the WCG 2011 Champions title.

L'étrange Musée d'Art Fantastique de Bruxelles a le plaisir de vous annoncer la troisième édition du Festival de la Bière Fantastique qui se déroulera en ses murs ces 24 et 25 septembre !
Cet événement offre à ses visiteurs l'occasion d'entreprendre une surprenante expédition familiale au pays des monstres et des bestioles tout en dégustant de savoureux breuvages aux connotations fantastiques.
Au menu: découverte de dix bières belges aux étiquettes ou aux noms inquiétants pour les grands monstres, et, dégustation d'étranges potions à base de jus de fruits pour les vieilles mamies. Vos papilles régalées, vos autres sens ne seront pas délaissés. Les amateurs d'art et les fans de fantastique seront ivres de bonheur lors de leur visite du plus atypique des musées bruxellois. Les petits diables se régaleront de leur promenade sur Dumbo-Robot et tous s'esclafferont devant les projections de vidéos cocasses... Fantastique, non ?

Grand tournoi de Mijole dans le cadre du Festival de la Bière Fantastique au MAF

Le jeu de la mijole est un jeu d'adresse ouvert à tout le monde. Il se pratiquait dans les cafés du centre de Bruxelles; et, c'est depuis plusieurs années que la famille Carpentier, (dessinateur du célèbre Poje), nous la remet au jour.

Ce samedi 24 et dimanche 25 septembre: dans le cadre de la troisième édition du festival de la bière; vous pourrez venir vous entraîner, et vous qualifier à notre grand concours. Il vous sera aussi loisible de visiter notre exposition permanente du musée d'art fantastique; et, pour vous mettre dans l'ambiance du concours, voici un petit historique et le règlement :

Règlement de la Mijole. Du moins, c'était celui auquel on se référait dans le bistrot "Le millénaire", où on jouait à la mijole sur la place du samedi, à côté de la grand place de Bruxelles, il y a 25 ans...

D'après ce qu'on m'a raconté, (mais que je n'ai pu vérifier). Ce jeu était joué par les maraîchers bruxellois, dans les bacs qui leurs servaient à couper les épinards, début du siècle passé.

Les joueurs sont placés derrière une ligne située à 2,5 mètre de la ligne coupant le trou de la "mijole" .La partie se joue en 6 lancés de 6 jetons par joueur.

Après le lancé des 6 jetons, chaque jeton qui est dans le trou est comptabilisé à 3 points. Ceux qui touchent la ligne transversale 2 points. Ceux qui sont dans le bac,1 point; et, ceux qui sont hors du bac, moins 1 point.

Soit pour 1 lancé: de -6 à +18 points.Le vainqueur est celui qui totalise le plus de points après 6 lancés.

production of animated films, within the international competition for commercials,

Every year the festival is attracting more than 35.000 people, professionals, journalists,

STRIPFESTIVAL BREDA OPENT MET MARTEN TOONDERPRIJS

Morgen wordt in De Grote Kerk in Breda de Marten Toonderprijs aan Peter Pontiac overhandigd. Jan Kruis, de winnaar van vorig jaar zal de oeuvreprijs van 25.000 euro uitreiken. Dit is meteen het startschot voor Stripfestival Breda dat Breda 3 dagen lang het middelpunt van het beeldverhaal zal zijn. Op maar liefst 8 verschillende locaties worden er tal van activiteiten georganiseerd.

CHASSE THEATER

Het hart van het festival is de stripbeurs in het Chassé Theater. Daar zijn de striptekenaars, uitgevers en standhouders te vinden. Ook vind je daar veel attracties voor het hele gezin, waaronder een springkussen, schminkstand, karikatuurtekenaars, workshop striptekenen, knutselhoek, stripveilingen, stripquiz, happy hour, presentaties en nog veel meer.

STRIPMAKERS

De lijst van stripmakers is oneindig lang. Een kleine greep uit de meer dan honderd tekenaars en schrijvers: Dick Matena, Martin Lodewijk, Eric Heuvel, Willem Ritstier, Jorg de Vos, Romano Molenaar, Carry Brugman, Mark van Herpen, Dick Heins, Gerben Valkema, Eric Hercules, Fred de Heij, Willem Ritstier, Danker Jan Oreel, René Uilenbroek, Uco Egmond, Pieter Hogenbirk, Marq van Broekhoven, Herman Roozen, Mars Gremmen, Gerard Leever, IJsbrand Oost, Ger Apeldoorn, Sytse Algera en Henk Kuijpers signeren in Breda.

ANIMATIE

Stormtroopers, Robots, Manga meisjes, Zombies, Monsters, Knuffeldieren en Marq van Broekhoven als Jodocus de barbaar, je kunt het zo gek niet verzinnen of je loopt ze wel tegen het lijf. In het Chassé Theater maar ook daarbuiten zorgen ze voor het spektakel dat bij Stripfestival Breda hoort.

OPEN MONUMENTENDAG

Op vrijdag is de uitreiking van de Marten Toonderprijs in De Grote Kerk van Breda. Deze feestelijke gebeurtenis is echter alleen voor genodigden. Op zaterdag is de kerk wel voor het publiek geopend i.v.m. Open Monumentendag en dan is er ook een kleine tentoonstelling van werk van Peter Pontiac te bezichtigen.

HENK KUIJPERS

In de Euretco Foyer in het Chassé Theater organiseert Henk Kuijpers een bijzondere Franka verkooptentoonstelling, waar het complete artwork van het album Het zilveren vuur te bewonderen is.

PETER PONTIAC - COMIX, HOTPIX & TRAGIXDe tentoonstelling Comix, Hotpix & Tragix in het Graphic Design Museum geeft een overzicht van het werk van striptekenaar Peter Pontiac. Hij is de tweede striptekenaar die de Marten Toonderprijs ontvangt. Deze oeuvreprijs voor strips is ingesteld door het Fonds voor beeldende kunsten, vormgeving en bouwkunst. Pontiac wordt internationaal geroemd. Hij heeft iets bijzonders aan de Nederlandse strip toegevoegd dat er nog niet was: een combinatie van schrijver- en kunstenaarschap. Muziek is één van zijn grootste inspiratiebronnen. Hij tekende als undergroundtekenaar zeer persoonlijke strips over liefde, leven, dood en drugs. In 2000 publiceerde hij Kraut, over het leven van zijn vader die Kriegsberichter was tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en daarna roddeljournalist. Werk voor Kraut en vele andere originele tekeningen zijn te zien op deze overzichtstentoonstelling.

KUNSTSTRIPBEURS

Op de KunstStripBeurs in het Graphic Design Museum verkopen striptekenaars zelf hun eigen werk: boeken, buttons, zeefdrukken, originele tekeningen, schilderijen, t-shirts en nog veel meer. Onder de 80 deelnemers o.a. Guido van Driel, Margreet de Heer, Erik de Graaf, Edith Kuyvenhoven, Nozzman en Gerrie Hondius. De KunstStripBeurs wordt georganiseerd in samenwerking met het Fonds BKVB.

HAAS

Het artwork dat Fred de Heij voor Haas heeft gemaakt is te bezichtigen in Galerie Jan d'Art. De expositie omvat o.a. schetsen, lijntekeningen en olieverfschilderijen. Het artwork is tevens te koop.

WASCO TEKENTTekenaar Wasco is één van de best bewaarde geheimen van de Nederlandse stripwereld. Voortdurend is hij op zoek naar de grenzen van het medium. Hij publiceert zijn werk al jaren in eigen beheer. Zijn oeuvre is omvangrijk, want Wasco tekent dag in en dag uit. Ter gelegenheid van zijn tentoonstelling in het Graphic Design Museum tekent Wasco daar tijdens Stripfestival Breda op 10 en 11 september een paar keer per dag.

CENTRUM VOOR BEELDCULTUUR

Strips maken vereist doorzettingsvermogen en je moet er ongelofelijk eigenwijs voor zijn, anders begin je er niet aan. Toch meldt zich een steeds grotere groep beginnende stripmakers. In deze groepstentoonstelling veertien jonge nieuwe talenten. Sommigen zijn vers van de academie, anderen hebben met steun van het Fonds BKVB net hun debuut uitgebracht of werken daar nog aan. In de tentoonstelling in het Centrum voor Beeldcultuur is een overzicht te zien van dit aanstormende talent.

ELECTRON

In 2 weekenden (10/11 en 17/18 september) wordt in Electron een inspirerende ruimte opgebouwd met graphic novels, kunst, live painting, exposities, muziek, shop, poëtry, design, workshops, live printing AND more! Op 10 en 11 september staan de medewerkers van Electron live aan de drukpers en kun je samen met hen aan de slag. 's Avonds is er een stripfeest, wat een geweldige happening belooft te worden.

ALGEMENE INFO

De entree voor de stripbeurs in het Chassé Theater is eur 8,50 voor volwassenen en eur 6,00 voor kinderen tot 12 jaar. Met de kortingsbon in deze Eppo krijg 1 euro korting op de entreeprijs.

De entree voor het Graphic Design Museum, De Grote Kerk (op zaterdag) en het Centrum voor beeldcultuur is gratis.

Tot de tanden toe bewapend. Met extra fijngeslepen tanden. Grijnzend toekijkend hoe de angst in alle porieen van de schildwachten kruipt.
Ze staan aan de poorten van Elfia. En tegen de tijd dat jij Elfia bezoekt, zijn ze al binnen: de vampieren uit de kuststreken van Vampia. Zogenaamd met goede bedoelingen. Maar er is niets goeds aan vampieren. Hun marketing afdeling heeft zeer slim geopereerd en zand in de ogen gestrooid van jullie mensen. Sinds boeken en films als 'Twilight' is er onterecht sympathie ontstaan voor de bloeddorstigste aller rassen.
En ze komen niet alleen. Ze krijgen versterking van de uiterst onsmakelijke zombies. De immer geroemde gastvrijheid is ook meteen de achilleshiel van Elfia. Een vampieren hotel openen is nog tot daar aan toe. Het houdt de bloedzuigers in ieder geval vooral overdag rustig. Maar zombies binnenlaten is erger dan het paard van Troje. Eenmaal binnen in ons geliefde koninkrijk, zullen deze rottende vleeshopen zich letterlijk een weg vreten naar het hart van onze natie. Misschien lijk ik wel een desperate xenofoob maar ik heb het gewoon niet op de onuitputtelijke vraatzuchtigheid van die ondoden.
Daarom een oprechte waarschuwing aan alle menselijke rassen die Elfia in september willen bezoeken: bereid je voor op een onvrijwillige behandeling door vampieren en zombies. Neem in ieder geval wat zilveren kogels, knoflook en christelijke kruizen mee en train je op zelfverdediging. Onderschat een zombie nooit. Ze zijn niet zo hersenloos als ze soms lijken. Tevoorschijn komen vanuit een hinderlaag lijkt hun grootste hobby te zijn. Mocht je dit overkomen, dan is de enige oplossing: hard wegrennen. Vermijd verdere confrontatie.
Ondanks al deze somberheid wens ik je toch een hopelijk compleet bijtvrij bezoek aan Elfia toe.

Nederlanders ontwikkelen "zombieburger"

Een groep Nederlandse wetenschappers werkt in laboratoria volop aan de ontwikkeling van een zogenaamde zombieburger. Dat is vlees dat volledig in een laboratorium "gekweekt" wordt. Het gaat dus om echt vlees, geen vervangproduct op basis van soja. Voor deze vorm van gedeeltelijke veeteelt, hebben de wetenschappers enkel wat stamcellen nodig van de dieren die ze later op hun bord willen. De universiteit van Maastricht maakt zich in het wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Scientific American sterk dat het binnen het jaar de eerste volledig synthetische biefstuk klaar kan hebben. Professor Mark post, die het project uitvoert, vreest echter dat hij niemand zal vinden die het eerste lapje vlees wil proeven.

The Brontë Sisters' Lost Science Fiction Stories Involve Alternate Dimensions

Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein, is long held to have been the first female science fiction writer, but Charlotte, Anne and Emily Brontë wrote about the imaginary kingdoms of Gondol and Angria when they were just kids, years earlier.

The British Library recently revealed rare and amazing hand-written transcripts from the authors that were created in their early years as children together which revealed an elaborate fantasy world called The Glass Town Federation. Branwell, their brother, and Charlotte were in charge of the imaginary kingdom of Angria, while Emily and Anne were the writers of the world of Gondal. They all were 'gods' of their kingdoms, and wrote obsessivley about them and created detailed maps. Because the worlds were set in (their) modern times and basically suggested an alternate dimension, scholars are considering the stories science fiction.
